Frequently Asked Question

CompTIA A+ Core 1 is the first of two exams required to earn the industry-standard A+ certification, designed to launch your tech career. This exam focuses on foundational skills in hardware, networking, mobile devices, and troubleshooting.

It comprises two certification exams covering different topics, both of which you must pass to obtain the A+ certification: Core 1 focuses on hardware, cloud computing, mobile devices, and networking technology, and. Core 2 is about software, operating systems, operational procedures, and cyber security basics.

The short answer is yes. CompTIA A+ is valid for three years, and you'll need to renew it to keep your certification active. That can mean earning CEUs, retaking the exam, or completing approved training.

Candidates certified in CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA Security+ on or before December 31, 2010 are considered ”certified for life” and are not required to renew their certifications.

There aren't any age requirements or educational prerequisites to take a CompTIA exam. However, we recommend that candidates for any certification be at least 13 years old. We also outline recommended experiences for each exam to set you up for success.
